Cube Libre with a Twist
Rum and Coke is my mom’s favorite drink. I can’t blame her. A classic Cuba Libre is hard to beat. And it only takes two ingredients. Rum and coke.
Always refreshing and sweet, a perfect Spring night cocktail.
Though you shouldn’t mess with perfection, I thought I’d give this classic cocktail a fun little twist, by adding cherries.
My variation can be made with fresh cherries, once they are in season.
But it works perfectly with preserved cherries especially because we also use the juice. You could also simply use cherry coke, but where is the fun in that?
If you like a Cherry Coke, you will love this cocktail.
Though, be warned. Something about this Rum and Coke combo will make you want to dance.

Additional Notes for this Recipe
What Rum to Mix with Coke?
White rum, also known as light rum is the most popular type of rum for a rum and coke recipe. It’s light and sweet and pairs well with coca-cola or diet coke.
If you like a little more flavor though, try giving dark rum a chance. It has a lot more flavor like vanilla and also makes for a delicious rum and coke variation.
How to Make Rum and Coke Sweeter?
For this recipe you can simply add more cherry juice to make this rum and coke taste sweeter. You can also use simple syrup.
To make a standard rum and coke you need a 2 to 1 ratio. Meaning for every ounce of rum you need 2 oz of mixer.
To make any cocktail sweeter, you can simply change the usual ratio to 3. Where you add 3 oz of your mixer to every 1 oz of hard alcohol.
Which coke is best for rum and coke drink?
Sidenote: I love that Coca-Cola® created these mini cans, they’re such a perfect size for a midday pick me up, and they’re perfect for this cocktail, since one can makes 2 drinks.
However, don’t worry you can use whatever coke you have on hand.
