Why You Should Make This Grapefruit Vodka Mule Recipe

Moscow mules have gotten so popular recently and for a good reason the combination of vodka, lime and ginger beer is spectacularly delicious.

Personally, I have no idea why this is known as a Russian ginger beer drink, as a Russian myself I’ve never heard of a Moscow Mule cocktail. But, I do absolutely love it. The combination of the tart grapefruit and the sweet ginger beer is delicious.

The addition of rosemary and grapefruit to this mule recipe makes this cocktail incredibly sippable.

In fact, you could skip the vodka in this cocktail and make it a beer and grapefruit juice mocktail.

Something about this color combo and the rosemary’s resemblance to pine makes me think of it as a perfect winter cocktail. Don’t you think?

The hint of rosemary also works incredibly well with the ginger beer. By the way, I opted for Diet ginger beer, to save on some calories!

A juicy red grapefruit is also such a tasty addition and compliments the Absolut Elyx vodka so well.

To start, fill your copper mug with ice, or use fancy large ice cubes like I did for this mule. Add vodka and grapefruit juice.

You can use fresh or store bought grapefruit juice for this drink. I also skip the traditional lime for this recipe, as I find the grapefruit brings enough acidity.

Next, top your mug with ginger beer and add a sprig of fresh rosemary for garnish. You can also add a slice of grapefruit.

Why does a Moscow Mule have to be in a copper cup?

The short answer is that it does not. However, the copper mug does help to keep your cocktail cold and it is said that cold copper may intensify the fizziness of the carbonation of the ginger beer in Moscow mules, thus enhancing the  flavors of the cocktail.

If you’ve ever had a Moscow mule not in a copper mug, you probably noticed a difference. There might not be any scientific evidence to this, but I believe the copper enhances the flavor of the vodka mule, and keeps it super cold.

So you can imagine my surprise when I found out that Absolut Elyx is the world’s first single estate copper crafted luxury vodka. Absolut Elyx vodka goes through a unique copper catalyzation process, which makes it so silky smooth and perfect for a Moscow mule.

Initially, this post was made in partnership with Absolut Elyx, and if you have it on hand I highly recommend making your mule with it.
