Now that the kids are in school, we are learning to navigate our vacation schedules by their school breaks. Which is how we decided on a last minute trip to Hawaii. It was incredibly crowded, but we still had an amazing time. I’m working on putting together our Hawaii kid-friendly vacation guide. Stay tuned.
Creating your Dream Vacation Capsule
Maybe it’s living on the coast, but I love getting a few new vacation outfits because they always transform into my Spring/Summer uniform and I get a lot of use out of these items. I don’t believe you need an entire new wardrobe, but a few new things that build on what you already have are a great way to create a capsule vacation closet that you can recycle over several seasons of pool getaways and beach vacations.
Pool-Side Style
Absolutely love the style of this Hunza G twist two-piece swimsuit, and I also found a one-piece suit from Target that was definitely inspired by the Hunza G trend.
This white button down has been one of my favorite beach cover up purchases, it’s versatile and perfect for when you need to go from the pool or beach to lunch or shopping.
I purchased this cover up last year and it’s perfect for the beach or the pool. I’ve also had my eye on this L*Space one. There is a reason this style cover up comes back every year, it’s stylish and timeless.
This one is giving Greek Goddess, and crochet is so popular at the moment.
Another great option is this set I picked up last year. It was perfect for day activities and excursions. I paired with my Steve Madden sandals for comfort.

Dinner Style
Last year I packed heels for our family vacation with a 1 and 6 year old. This year I know better. I found stylish and comfortable flats that are perfect for the pool, during the day and still look chic with dinner looks.
I’ve had my eye on these Everlane flats for a while and finally purchased. I also love these Aloha sandals. These two make an easy addition to that summer/spring wardrobe so they’re a good investment for vacation and beyond.
This Linen dress is gorgeous and effortless and the lilac color is irresistable vacation style.
I have this dress in navy and it’s such a good everyday dress you can dress up and wear on repeat all season long. Perfect for kid-friendly vacation style.
If you prefer something other than a dress, I love these linen set options.
Woven Bags I’m Loving
I love the simplicity of this woven bag. The size makes it perfect for dinner, but it’s also big enough to add a few things for the kids. Because, mom life.
For kid toys and other kid items I got this tote from Amazon last year, and it’s been holding up wonderfully, plus it’s easy to pack and carry as an extra beach bag as needed.
I am also loving this Anine Bing tote. It’s so chic and really elevates all outfits.
Two Piece Sets and Day Looks
I would not be able to vacation without a proper two piece set. They’re perfect for morning breakfast or coffee runs and for day excursions.
I’ve had these two for several years. In purple, and in striped. Last year I added this linen blend two piece from Amazon and wore it all summer.
Pair it with Steve Madden dad sandals and you have a perfect vacation day outfit. I have them in black and white and find them super comfortable.
Sun Protection, but make it cute
I’ve also had my eye on this Lack of Color hat, much more practical for mom life. But my heart still belongs to this Cayana hat. It’s just gorgeous.
The hat is an investment, but since I never go to the beach or pool without a hat, I thought it was worth the price tag. It looks incredibly chic and makes you look instantly put together. If you’re looking for a more budget friendly option, I love this one.
A note on skincare
Obviously a lot of sunscreen use goes without saying, but I also find that on vacation it’s too hot for full makeup and instead I opt for bb or cc creams. I took my Elta MD tinted sunscreen and it was perfect for a little extra glow at night. I’m on my third bottle of this product and highly recommend. At home, I mix it with a little bit of my Estee Lauder foundation and it creates a wonderful glow and gives perfect coverage.
Honorable mention also goes to Tan Luxe self-tanner. It was perfect to get my skin ready for all the sun and gave me a natural glow. I used it sparingly.
